Parties, Functions & Corporate Bookings

We've hosted countless parties and business meetings here at the Jockey.


Our multi-room layout means that whatever you might have planned, you can choose the right room/s for the size and style of your event, whether it's a wedding, civil partnership, birthday party, anniversary, christening, leaving party, club meeting, works "do", end of term bash, welcome home party or just a plain old excuse for a get together.



Each section of the pub is different in size and has its own distinct feel:

  • The Tap Room has a capacity of 45 seated or 70 standing. It also has its own dedicated section of bar, open fire in winter and is easily accessed from the main entrance.


  • The Snug is exactly as the name suggests, a cosy C shaped room seating around 30, with open fire in winter. Once again, the room is easily accessed from the main entrance.


  • The Lounge is our biggest room, seating around 50 but with standing room for another 100 or so. Alternatively, additional tables can be laid in this room to provide extra seating. As the Lounge is the hub of the pub, we are limited to the times we can hire this space out and the amount of space we can give you, unless you are considering hiring the whole venue.


  • The Dining Rooms seat 60 comfortably. They are situated to the rear of the pub, and thus have a much more private feel to them. They have their own entrance from Beech Road and another one directly onto the Terrace, so it is possible to create a private outdoor area should you wish. Recent extension works have provided an additional 20 covers for the Dining Rooms across 3 rooms at first floor level. Within the space is a Private Dining Room with seating for 12. A staircase links the Dining Rooms with the Tap Room and the microbrewery.


We don't want to bamboozle you but as you can see, there are already countless possibilities. Now Phase 2 is complete, these possibilities are endless! The best thing to do is speak to us.

"Top of our wish list for a wedding party was to find somewhere local. We live in Chorlton, met each other just up the road, and wanted to celebrate our civil partnership here.

At the same time we’re not easily pleased – very good food, wine, ambience and service were not negotiable. We started planning about a year before the big day but were struggling to agree on a venue that ticked all the boxes.

But that changed once the newly re-born Horse & Jockey had become our local and we could see that standards were on the up.

From the first planning meeting we had with you, and new chef Craig, the idea was looking like a good one. Craig listened to our strong ideas about food and took them on board, coming back to us with a bespoke menu that met the brief perfectly – right down to options for our one vegan guest that she was talking about for weeks afterwards.

The dining room was designed by Emily so that it looked gorgeous and everyone felt included; service on the day was taken care of beautifully by Emily and Phil, despite changes in seating plan right up to the last minute, and our complete failure to stick to the agreed timetable on the day! An added surprise was the private smoking area set up on the terrace for us and our several friends and relations with bad habits!

All in all, we got exactly what we wanted – a perfect blend of personal attention, the ability to design the sort of event we wanted, professional yet warm service, and excellent value for money.

We even had the last proper sunny day in July 2010. But we’re not sure you or your team can take the credit for that on top of everything else you did so well!

“We had our son’s Christening party at the Horse & Jockey and they managed to fit us in at short notice during the run up to Christmas. The staff were attentive, friendly and very welcoming. They were both flexible and helpful with food options to cater for all. The food was delicious and the log fire created a cosy setting on a cold Winters evening. "We had a reception for our son's Christening in the Tap Room at the Horse & Jockey.

We are writing to express thanks and to say that we were very happy with the experience. In particular James Billson was very attentive on the day and made the whole experience quite easy. The bar staff were also very nice.

The guests were very impressed with the food and were constantly complimenting it (we had the meat and vegetarian hotpots). I think there was only half a sandwich left!

CATERING REQUIREMENTS

In addition to our usual wide range of beers, wines and spirits, bespoke canapes, fork and buffet menus can be arranged to suit your requirements. We will tailor-make a package that is right for you, from a humble hot pot supper with real ale to a hog roast carvery with scrumpy.


SAMPLE BUFFET MENUS

We often get asked for sample buffet menus. Although we are reluctant to do this, as we prefer all our functions to be tailor-made, here are some competitively priced sample menus. The minimum cost per head for a buffet is £7.50, but remember you can have whatever you like so we must stress this is for guidance only:

Before you contact us, we would ask you to bear in mind that we're a busy place, and at peak times (ie Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday) it may not be possible for us to give you a dedicated area.


ROOM HIRE CHARGES

  • No charge for hire of just a specific area (eg private dining room, snug) subject to us providing catering (food and/or drinks depending on area/day of week)
  • No charge for exclusive use of Dining Rooms/Function Room - subject to meeting minimum spend requirement on food/drink (see below)
  • No charge for use as a meeting space Mon-Fri daytime if we provide catering, otherwise £100

CORPORATE BOOKINGS

For daytime business meetings of up to 40 people, we can provide private use of our Dining Room(s).

The Dining Rooms have their own separate entrance if required.

In return for us meeting your catering requirements for the day, room hire is free of charge (otherwise £100).

Projector facilities are available.

Ideal for training days and away days.

Offered Mon-Fri 9-5pm (times negotiable by arrangement)
